hey-o. it's 2010, and i haven't made one of those traditional 'check it out guyz we're rockin here' posts, and i feel like i owe that in part to the last semester basically crushing me. i don't mean academically in particular, either. after an immensely promising spring semester last year, shit just seems to have headed south, and i guess my outlook now isn't the greatest.
this winter vacation has been not-quite-delightfully unproductive. next semester has to be a reboot for me, one that will bring me to my senses, get me something to do for the summer, and force me to do cardio exercise. i'm looking for that spark that will get me writing, get me motivated about shit. and yeah, all that typing has already daunted me.

quick jabs
ong bak is awesome. my inability to do homework is not. i all-nighted it last night and still managed to make it through the day strong today, so i'm feeling good.

taking a bite out of september
is it seriously october already? the other day, i dated my paper '9/28/08.' maybe i'll get used to writing 09 on my papers when it's 2011 and... wow, i might not even be dating papers by then. let's not think about that.
classes are rough. not having a crew to back me up in four of the five classes blows. i've been relying on office hours and attempting pitifully to get early starts. so far that's translated into at least three wednesday nights in a row staying up past 3 a.m.
but it's been a good semester so far. the definitive characteristic, aside from this vague sense of drowning in classes, has probably been the whole fitness thing. other than that, it's been the usual. turning twenty, desperately needing new clothes, eating, procrastinating on anything involving real life, following multiple tv series, wishing jack bauer were back.
three prelims next week, and i need to get my ass in gear for research. let's do this.

closing out the summer
i've been back at school for a week and a half. summer vacation ended beautifully calmly.
a few things aren't hot about this year. classes and academic motivation could definitely use a large boost compared to last year. my ceiling is really low, and my bed doesn't really fit more than one that comfortably, and it's pretty costly to live on campus. and i forgot my jack bauer poster.
... but i'll be damned, there is a lot to indicate this will be the best year of college yet. the chinese language house, instead of being filled with unsavory types, actually looks quite interesting. my room, while feminine and a little low-topped, is fucking awesome. has its own little hallway, and the chapel-shaped roof feels really cool. bed's a bit high, but it's comfortable as hell. leaves ample space underneath for boxes and laundry. unlimited meal plan means best eating ever. stuffing myself three times a day who wants some. gym is accessible and isn't that crowded.
few pet projects for the first weeks. first is the crossword; i'm going to try to collect them from my school newspaper every weekday this year. the other is classic rock albums, one a day. so far i've done boston's eponymous and the beatles' abbey road. upcoming is pink floyd, queen, led zeppelin, and the who.
so seriously, let's try this again. best year ever?

summer stewing
getting a bit busier in the lab. saw doubt and the fifth and sixth harry potter movies (whoa what the hell the sixth was awesome). discovered that the boston public library in copley is not that great, which, uh, i should have expected but stupidly didn't. also watched the entirety of hajime no ippo: new challenger and caught myself up in the hajime no ippo manga. now in the midst of outlaw star.

laundry list
read the master and margarita, finished some shows, finished fate/stay night, discovered physicsforums.
